Speed camera FAQs
Where are the speed cameras near me?
The map shows every fixed speed camera, red-light camera and average-speed (section) camera that volunteers have added to OpenStreetMap. Search an address or tap 'Find cameras near me' to zoom to your area. Mobile speed traps are not shown.
Can I plan a route that avoids speed cameras?
Yes. Enter your drive in the exposure report and tick 'Also steer my drive around speed & red-light cameras'. The full report shows the route that passes the fewest cameras, turn by turn, with a Google Maps link and a GPX file.
Is it legal to look up speed camera locations?
In the US, Canada, the UK and most of Europe, yes. In Germany and France it is illegal to use a warning app while driving, so use this for planning before a trip. Swiss law forbids publishing traffic-control locations, so Switzerland is not shown.
How complete is this map?
It is every camera reported to OpenStreetMap (50,140 as of October 5, 2026). Coverage is strong in much of Europe and thinner in many US cities, so treat the count as a minimum.
