How does the route camera check work?
You give a start and destination, the tool works out the driving route, then compares it against every camera reported to OpenStreetMap. Anything within 250 metres of the road you would drive is listed, in the order you would pass it.
Is this every camera on my route?
No. It shows cameras volunteers have documented from public roads, so treat the number as a floor rather than a complete count. Coverage is strongest in metro areas and grows every week as people add what they spot.
Does it work outside the United States?
Yes, wherever the underlying map data has cameras — the US, Canada, the UK and much of Europe. Coverage outside North America is thinner, so shorter European routes may come back empty even where cameras exist.
Is my route saved anywhere?
No. The route is worked out in your browser and nothing about it is stored or sent to this site. Close the tab and it is gone.
